Obituary

Alice Vahey of Newton, formerly of Edison, NJ and Cranston RI, died on November 23, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband Richard (Dick) Vahey. She was the beloved mother of Stacey Richard and her husband Ted of Auburndale and Ted Vahey and his wife Maureen, also of Auburndale, sister of Edward Lynch and his wife Carroll of Centerville, the late William Lynch and his wife Maureen, and twin of the late K. Ann McGrath. She is also survived by grandchildren Aidan and Logan and by many cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Alice loved to banter and joke with friends and family. Everyone knew if she teased you, you had made it to her inner circle of friendship.

She was passionate about education and was a PTA president while her children were in elementary school. She was actively involved at The Cathedral of St. Francis in Metuchen, NJ where she was a Religious Education teacher, working with students across multiple grades. She was also a seamstress of liturgical garments and tapestries for the Cathedral and was a Eucharistic Minister at New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home at Menlo Park.

She enjoyed spending summers with friends and family at the beach, from Cape May Point, NJ to Cape Cod, MA. If she wasn't walking along the beach, you could find her collaborating on a jigsaw puzzle or playing a competitive game of cards.

After graduating from Newton High School, she worked at Liberty Mutual in Boston, The Waltham Watch Company, and the Watertown Arsenal. Later in life, she worked for AT&T, starting off in the secretarial pool, transitioning to the benefits department, and working her way up to the role of Pension Fund Administrator for all of AT&T.
