Andrew Gabriel Herzog, 77, died July 6, 2024 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, following a brief illness. He was born in Budapest, Hungary, the son of Agnes (Szerdahely) Herzog and George Herzog. The family emigrated to Canada in 1950. He received his B.Sc. from McGill University in 1967, his M.D.C.M. from McGill Medical School in 1971, his M.Sc. from McGill in 1972 and an honorary M.A. from Harvard University in 2006. He trained at Montreal General Hospital and Boston City Hospital under Dr. Norman Geschwind and practiced Neurology at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston from 1975- 2008. In 2008 he opened Neuroendocrine Associates in Wellesley, MA, where he practiced until 2021. He was Director of the Harvard Neuroendocrine Unit and Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School. He authored over 120 original scientific papers and wrote chapters in 60 text books. Even after his semi-retirement he continued to write papers, attend conferences and edit scientific journal articles.
He was an avid runner having completed 18 marathons, was passionate about sailing, enjoyed X-country skiing, loved playing the piano and recently took flying lessons.
He is survived by his wife Linda (Levesque) Herzog of Wellesley, MA, and Auburn, ME, daughters Lucy Herzog and Carolyn Herzog, granddaughter Cora Niner all of California, a brother and sister-in-law John and Angie Herzog, nephews Michael Herzog and his wife Genevieve and Steven Herzog and his wife Jennifer all of Ottawa, Canada.
Visiting hours will be Friday, July 12, 2024 from 4-7PM at Burke and Blackington Funeral Home, West Newton, MA, with burial at St. Peter's Cemetery, Lewiston, ME, on July 13, 2024 at 1PM. Friends and relatives are invited to attend.
