Ann H. Gough

Ann H. Gough passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026. She never cared much for numbers, especially the one attached to her age. Ann resided for most of her life in Newton, but she later relocated to Hanover. Ann will be lovingly remembered for her compassion, generosity, curiosity about the world, and the many lives she touched throughout her long and meaningful life.

Born in Newton, Massachusetts, Ann was a graduate of Massachusetts Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and dedicated her professional life to caring for others. Over the course of her nursing career, she worked in hospitals and care facilities throughout the Boston area, including Deaconess Hospital, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, and North Hill Retirement Community in Needham. She also served for many years as an instructor at the Deaconess School of Nursing, where she shared her knowledge and experience with generations of aspiring nurses.

Outside of her professional life, Ann had many passions including reading, opera, and gardening. She loved to travel and enjoyed exploring Western Europe, Israel, Russia, Turkey, and many other places around the world.

She cherished the years she spent at “the cottage” near Humarock Beach, where summers were filled with sunshine, family, friends, and the simple pleasures of being by the water. Those summers became treasured memories and an important part of her life.

Perhaps one of her most enduring legacies is found in her knitting. Throughout her life, Ann crafted thousands of knitted hats, mittens, sweaters, blankets, and even Christmas stockings. Some were lovingly made for people she knew personally, while many others were donated to hospitals throughout the Boston area. Her creations brought warmth and comfort to countless during the cold winter months—a simple but profound expression of her caring nature.

She is survived by her sisters Sheila Gough of Sharon, Kathleen Lauck of Franklin as well as her brother Paul Gough and his wife Lisa of Ephrata, Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by her parents Edward and J. Helen Gough and her brother-in-law Robert Lauck.

A private celebration of life will be held with close family and loved ones. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in in her memory.
