Audrey Anne (Hickey) DiLeo passed away peacefully on Nov. 6th with her
family by her side. She was 84 years old. Audrey is the daughter of
the late John and Mildred Hickey of Newton, Mass.
Audrey attended Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic School where she
played basketball and graduated in 1955. She then graduated Chandler
Secretarial School in 1957 where she was the president of the Newman
Club, a social club for Catholic students. She was also the secretary
of Boston Regional Chapter of the Newman Club. She spent many years
traveling abroad with her girlfriends, especially Europe and the
Middle East.
She enjoyed many years of skiing in the Alps and the White Mountains
where she met her future husband. She was married in 1965 to Amelio
DiLeo for fourteen years and welcomed their two daughters Marianne and
Susanne. After graduation, she worked as an Executive Assistant in
the high-tech industry and as a medical secretary at Beth Israel
Deaconess Hospital. She retired as an Administrative Assistant from
Macy's Furniture Gallery.
Audrey played in the women's recreational softball league in Wellesley
and loved playing tennis and basketball and was great at ice-skating.
She was also talented at sewing, embroidery and knitting. She was an
avid Red Sox and Celtics fan and she and her mother would take her
daughters to Fenway every year. She loved traveling locally for
daytrips to Rockport and vacationing every year in Falmouth. She was
an active parishioner at St. James Church where she taught CCD.
Audrey will always be remembered for her sweet and caring heart, her
inquisitive mind and adventurous spirit.
Beloved mother of Marianne (DiLeo) Purvis of Burlington and her
husband Greg, Susanne (DiLeo) Wasserboehr of Natick and her husband
Rick; sister of Jack and Francesca Hickey and his daughter, Shannon and granddaughter Jessica of California. Also
survived by her grandchildren, Juliana Purvis, Brett Wasserboehr, Christina Purvis, Kegan Wasserboehr,
Kelly Wasserboehr, Michael Wasserboehr and Keith Wasserboehr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573
Washington St. Newton on Wednesday Nov. 10 at 10:30AM. Visiting hours are
Tuesday Nov. 9th from 5-8 P.M in the Henry J. Burke and Sons. Funeral
Home, 56 Washington St. (Rt. 16) Wellesley Hills. Interment in Newton
Cemetery, Newton. Donations in Audrey's memory may be made to
