With gratitude for a long and spirited life, the family of Booy Youn Gee shares that she passed away after a brief illness on November 1, 2026, at the age of 92.
Booy Youn Gee was the beloved wife of the late Douglas Gee and mother of the late Helen Gee Chin. Her life continues to be celebrated by her children, Dolly and her husband Howie Lau, Betty Gee, Bonnie Gee and her husband Perry Wong, Edward Gee and his wife Inga, and her son-in-law Calvin Chin and his wife Katelyn. She also leaves a joyful family legacy through her eight grandchildren, Drew, Jessi, Alyssa, Amanda, Alex, Michael, Sabrina, and Erik; her two great-granddaughters, Maeve and Camila; and her brother Linton of Calgary.
Born on June 9, 1934, Booy Youn moved to America in 1955. She chose to settle in Brookline to raise her five children because education was important to her. Over the years, she lived in several homes in Brookline before eventually moving to Chestnut Hill. In her later years, she returned to Chinatown and made her home at The Metropolitan. She was also an active member of the greater Boston Chinese community.
Booy Youn brought energy and skill to the things she loved. She had a sharp mind and excelled at mahjong for high stakes, enjoyed card games at casinos, and delighted in board games with family and friends at Brigham House Assisted Living. She embraced many activities there, especially bingo, jewelry making, other crafts, and chair exercise sessions.
She was especially talented in paper crafts, often teaching herself simply by seeing something at a fair. She made hundreds of pieces to benefit the Helen Gee Chin Scholarship Fund, selling them at fairs in Chinatown, Kung Fu tournaments, and open houses at her son-in-law’s martial arts academy. Remarkably, she was still making these crafts this year at age 92.
Visitation will be held at Burke and Blackington, 1479 Washington Street, West Newton, on Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Burke and Blackington of West Newton on Monday, November 9, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at St. Michael’s Cemetery, 500 Canterbury Street, Boston. In lieu of flowers and white envelopes, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice. Her life will be remembered with admiration, pride, and many happy stories.
