Obituary

Charles Gordon McMullin, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday July 30, 2021 at his lifelong home in Newton Highlands. Mr. McMullin was born in Newton on December 14th, 1935 to Gordon McCaskill McMullin and Alice Sigismond (McCarron) McMullin. He leaves behind his brother Gregg E. McMullin of Sandwich and was preceded in death by his sister Joan M. Luthy. In addition, he also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all who will miss him dearly.

In his youth Gordon (Gordie), excelled academically and athletically. He was a standout Baseball and Basketball player throughout his scholastic career. Gordon served his country as a member of the Army's 154th Transportation Company from 1956-1958. He continued to serve as a member of the United States Army Reserve from 1958-1962. In time, Gordon turned his service to the City of Newton by joining the police force where he rose to the level of Lieutenant. From November of 1966 until his retirement in July of 1997, Gordon faithfully, enthusiastically and proudly served his community.

Gordon was a voracious reader, no doubt a skill he inherited from his librarian mother. Gordon had a very keen wit and was a great story teller. Much of his free time in the summer was spent at his cottage on Lake Horace in Weare N.H. where he spent time boating, relaxing and trading tales with friends and neighbors. Throughout his life, Gordon had a passion for horse racing. For many years, August would find Gordon making the pilgrimage to Saratoga to handicap the races.

Gordon leaves behind a legacy of service, love for his country and love for his family. He was a kind and generous son, brother, and uncle. A special note of gratitude to Gordon's niece Betty Mazzone and her husband Bob for their loving support and companionship during these past
months.

Gordon left this earth knowing he was loved, in no small part due to their efforts.
