Obituary

Edward B. Cronin of Bonita Springs, Florida died on October 20 at Massachusetts General Hospital after an extended illness. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

​A long time radiologist in Hartford, Connecticut, he was born in Newton, son of Mary (Bowen) and Edward V. Cronin and attended local schools. He graduated from Boston College with a degree in chemistry (magna cum laude) and from the University of Vermont College of Medicine, where he was president of his class for four years.

​He completed a residency in diagnostic radiology at Hartford Hospital, and fellowship programs at the Harvard Joint Program in Nuclear Medicine and Oncologic Imaging at Brigham and Women's Hospital. After becoming board-certified in both diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine, he joined Jefferson Radiology in Hartford, where he specialized in breast imaging.

​After retiring in 2012, Ed moved to Bonita Springs full time. He was an avid golfer, biker and a member of a competitive trivia team. He was most at home in the kitchen and enjoyed planning large parties, especially for the radiology residents and extended family and friends around the holidays. Ed was a true Renaissance man whose hobbies included gardening, birdwatching, beer brewing and furniture making.

​He is survived by his wife, Helen Crowe, MD of Bonita Springs, Florida, his daughter Kathleen Cronin, Esq. of Jamaica Plain, his sister, Mary Louise Bozza of Brighton, brother Paul and sister-in-law Nancy of Newton Lower Falls, and brother-in-law Jerry Kelley of West Roxbury. He was pre-deceased by his parents, sisters, Martha McAllister and Anne Kelley, and his brother-in-law Ralph Bozza.

​He was also very close to his multiple nieces and nephews, including Mary Louise Bozza (Gary Wang), Michael (Zana) Bozza, Katherine McAllister (Christopher Paone),Timothy Cronin, Mary Kate Cronin and eight grand nieces and nephews.

​A Mass of Christian burial will be held on October 28 at 11 AM at St. John's Church in Wellesley. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine (http://med.uvm.edu/alumni/givingoverview) or the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida (https://donate.harrychapinfoodbank.org).
