Elizabeth
O'Neill
May 14, 1947 – November 10, 2025
Elizabeth M. "Betty" O'Neill, formerly of Waltham, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born in Boston, Betty was the beloved daughter of the late Arthur and Elizabeth Dagle and a proud graduate of Newton High School. From an early age, she was known for her kind heart and unwavering devotion to family.
Betty was the loving mother of Jennifer Ortega and her husband Gary of Burlington, and Jonathan O'Neill of Lowell. She was the proud and adoring Nana of Lucy O'Neill and Carly, Willa, and Piper Ortega — her greatest sources of joy. Whether she was spoiling them with toys, baking cookies, or cheering them on at school events, Betty cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren.
She was the dear sister of Virginia Viglirolo of Belmont and a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her longtime companion, James Kelly, with whom she shared many happy years.
Betty dedicated more than 20 years as a bookkeeper at the Bentley College Bookstore, where her coworkers became lifelong friends. She also shared her talents with Our Lady's Church in Waltham, serving faithfully as treasurer of the 1000 Club for many years.
Outside of work, Betty enjoyed simple pleasures — candlepin bowling with her league at Wal-Lex, spending time with friends, and catching up on her favorite shows. In her later years, she embraced her role as a "full-time Nana," caring for and living with her granddaughters, who filled her days with laughter, love, and purpose.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 15th at 11AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 9 Glen Rd., Wellesley, followed by interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Needham. Visiting hours will be held on Friday evening from 4–7PM at the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington St., Wellesley.
Betty will be remembered for her quiet strength, generous spirit, and the deep love she had for her family and friends.
