Gary A. Richter Sr. of Wellesley passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025 at the James David Hospice Unit at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA after a long battle with COPD exacerbated by Covid 19.
Born in Springfield to the late Paul and Jean (Canty) Richter, Gary lived in Wellesley for most of his life. After graduating from Wellesley High School in 1975, he entered the US Army and served as a Medic from September of 1975 to November of 1982, stationed in many locations including Germany. During this time he earned an Associates Degree. After returning to Wellesley, Gary worked in a local Newton restaurant for many years working his way up to bookkeeper and as a security guard in numerous retail stores.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Denise (Picariello) Richter and their daughter Felicia Marie Richter both from Wellesley, MA. He is also survived by three brothers: Wayne Richter from Southbridge, MA, Mark Richter and his wife Janelle from Brookfield, MA and Paul Richter Jr. and his wife Cheryl from Three Rivers, MA, and his two sisters; Jean Howard and her partner Dennis Spaulding and Ruth Richter, all from Warren, MA, as well as brother-in-law Paul Picariello and his wife Shawne from Ashburnham, MA and sisters-in-law Carol Picariello from Holden, MA and Elaine Picariello from Rehoboth Beach, DE, along with many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 10AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, Wellesley followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Needham. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening from 5-7PM in the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, Wellesley.
