Obituary

Gordon F. King, a lifelong resident of Newton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on September 15, 1934, in Hartford, Connecticut, he was the beloved son of the late J. Dudley King and Margaret (Evans) King.

Gordon was the devoted husband of 62 years to Natalie A. King (Longo). Together, they built a loving family that includes their son Joseph King and his wife Michelle of Framingham, and their daughter Carolyn Doherty and her husband Bernard of Framingham. He was a proud "Papa" to Tyler King and Katie Doherty and a cherished step-grandfather to Stephen Devoll, Brendon Devoll, and Bernard Doherty III.

A graduate of Suffolk University with a degree in Business, Gordon dedicated over 30 years to his career as a department store manager with Bradlees. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he served his country with distinction as a Major in the Massachusetts National Guard for 20 years before retiring.

Gordon found joy in life's simple pleasures—family gatherings, gardening, bowling, youth baseball games, and cheering on the Boston Red Sox. He also had a deep appreciation for education and its transformative power.

He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Bernard Parish in West Newton. In addition to his parents, Gordon was predeceased by many loved ones who undoubtedly welcomed him home with open arms.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 8th at 11AM in Corpus Christi-St. Bernard Church, West Newton, followed by interment in Newton Cemetery. Visiting hour will be held immediately prior to the Mass from 9:30-10:30AM in Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, West Newton.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gordon's memory may be made to Corpus Christi - St. Bernard Parish or the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Gordon's legacy of love and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort and peace to those he leaves behind.
