Gregory Hans
Buchholz
Nov 2, 1977 — Jun 9, 2026
Gregory “Greg” Hans Buchholz, age 48, of Wellesley, Massachusetts, passed away at home on June 9, 2026. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, and friend, and he will be greatly missed.
Greg was born on November 2, 1977 in New York City, New York to Mary “Judy” Julianne and Thomas “Buck” Buchholz. He spent most of his youth in Arlington, Virginia. Greg always enjoyed playing sports, especially soccer. As a high school student at H-B Woodlawn in Arlington he developed his athleticism by competing on many sports teams including crew and track.
Greg graduated in 1999 with a B.S. in Computer Science from William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. During his time in college, he built lifelong friendships with frequent outings to Paul’s Deli and early mornings rowing crew. Following college, Greg worked as a consultant for Tallan based out of New York City and then started with Morgan Stanley in May 2002 where he would work for the next 18 years before moving to Tradeweb as a Director in February 2021.
Wherever Greg went, he made friends and lots of them. Outgoing, fun-loving, and kind, he kept in touch with everyone. Once Greg considered you a friend, you were his friend forever. He would send you podcasts to listen to (or radio shows before they were called podcasts) or drop you a note when he saw something that reminded him of you. And, not only did you have a friend in Greg, but you also found yourself as part of a larger community. He was a great matchmaker and can claim full responsibility for the marriages of at least three different couples.
Greg treasured family. One of five boys, he was a devoted son and brother. Greg met his wife Katherine “Katie” Buchholz through friends in New York City. They were married in 2005 and enjoyed life in New York City before moving to St. Louis, Missouri in 2009. In St. Louis, Greg’s first daughter, Honora Sophia was born in August of 2011. It was clear from the start that he loved being a dad. As Honora grew, he would take her on all kinds of adventures – the park, science museums, zoos, bike rides, and the pool. The family moved to Ann Arbor in 2014 resulting in more friends and family fun. And, in 2017 Greg, Katie, and Honora moved to Wellesley, Massachusetts. Violet was born in April of 2018, and Cinnamon, the family’s yellow lab arrived later in 2018.
Greg enjoyed family life in Wellesley. He built his community through volunteering at the kids’ schools, meeting neighbors while walking Cinnamon, and forming workout groups with local friends.
Greg is survived by his wife Katie Buchholz of Wellesley, Massachusetts; his daughters, Honora Sophia, and Violet Kay; his parents, Judy and Buck Buchholz of Arlington, Virginia; his brothers Daniel Buchholz (Hannah), Dennis Buchholz (Elsy), and Barry Buchholz; his sister-in-law Vicky Dobbin; and his nieces and nephews Conor, Sydney, and Sean. He was preceded in death by his brother John Dobbin.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 19th at 11am in St. John the Evangelist Church with visitation in the Church starting at 9:30am. In lieu of flowers please consider giving to a GoFundMe set up to support Violet and Honora, donating to the Greater Boston Food Bank, or donating to the Massachusetts Horticultural Society.
