James Robert Lyons, 82 of West Newton MA passed away on June 1st, due to complications of a long illness.

James was born in Cambridge MA to Mary (Rigney)Lyons and William "Nick" Lyons on October 24, 1941. He graduated from Cambridge High and Latin attended Boston State College and received his Master's degree from Anna Maria College in Criminal Justice. He was a retired Cambridge Police officer, member of the National Guard and a proud member of the Elks.

He is survived by his four loving children, Lisa Bierman of Newton, James and Christa Lyons of Framingham, and Paul and David Lyons of Newton, along with their mother Rosalie Lyons as well as two grandchildren, James Robert Lyons, III and Matthew Joseph Lyons. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Kane of Cambridge, Edward Lyons of Stoneham and John Lyons of Readville. He was predeceased by his brothers, William, Richard and Michael Lyons. He had many nieces and nephews and leaves his long-time companion, Eileen Rosen.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 4-7 pm on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Burke and Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St, West Newton, Street in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brookhaven Hospice at https://www.brookhavenhospice.com
