Obituary

Joan Turner Banks daughter of George and Hollie Turner passed away peacefully after a short illness on March 22, 2024. Joan was born at Newton Wellesley Hospital on June 12, 1937.

Joan was one of fifteen children, Blessed to be born as an identical twin to June Lowe. Joan married Jesse Miller Banks in 1956 and they were happily married for over 67 years.

Joan and Jesse were Blessed to have two children, Jeffrey Miller Banks (deceased 2001) and June Beth Banks. Jeffrey married Sheyron Julia (Gerideau) and to this union was born two children: Sara Jenkeel Banks and Justin Miller Banks. Joan's grandchildren were always the apple of her eye. And each of her grandchildren Blessed her with great-grandchildren: London Nicole Edwards and Jude Miller Banks.

Joan attended the Newton Schools beginning at Davis Elementary School, Warren Junior High School, and received her diploma from Newton High School. Joan and her twin were admitted to Beth Israel School of Nursing. Joan and June graduated from nursing school, became registered nurses and accepted positions at Newton Wellesley Hospital. After working the wards for several years, they both became Nurse Practitioners and used their skills as visiting nurses in the greater Boston area. Joan completed her career as the Assistant Director of Nursing at an adult day care center in Framingham.

She leaves to mourn her husband Jesse Miller Banks, daughter June Beth Banks, daughter-in-law Sheyron Julia Banks, granddaughter Sara Jenkeel Banks, grandson Justin Miller Banks, great-granddaughter London Nicole Edwards, great-grandson Jude Miller Banks, Sister June Lowe, Brother Thomas Turner, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents George and Hollie Turner, her son Jeffrey Miller Banks, her brothers Levi Turner, Henry Turner, James Turner, Samuel Turner, Robert Turner, William Turner, her sisters Candace Haywood, Cornelia Johnson, Leahnora Hill, Maryellen Ricks, Ozella Evans, Elizabeth Nichols.
