Joan Ryan (Kelly) of Medfield MA, formerly a resident of Newton MA died peacefully on May 2nd 2025.
Joan was born in Somerville MA on October 21st 1947 to William Robert and Mary Kelly. Joan is survived by her loving husband and best friend Joseph R. Ryan. Beloved mother to Jennifer Ryan Kidd and her husband Scott of Medfield MA. Cherished grandmother to Ella Rose, Charles William and Joseph Robert Kidd. Sister to Patricia Daly and her husband William of Sandwich MA, Robert Kelly and his wife Bonnie of Columbia S.C., Jerry Kelly and his wife Elaine of West Point VA, Anne Marie McCord and her husband Dodge of Kennesaw GA, Michael Kelly of Plymouth MA, Maureen Kelly of Plymouth MA and David Kelly and his wife Tracy of Virginia Beach VA. Aunt to several much loved nieces and nephews including the precious memory of Meghan Kelly. Also leaving behind her sister in law and good friend Joan Newbanks and her husband Dennis of York ME. Joan attended St. Mary's Cambridge H.S. and Boston College. She lived in Newton MA with her husband and daughter while enjoying a career at Educational Testing Service (ETS) and selflessly volunteering at Newton Country Day School and St. Jeans Church. Joan enjoyed welcoming family and friends to her Newton home for countless celebrations, Easter, Thanksgiving, birthdays and Boston Marathon parties. Joan also loved sharing her home in Fryeburg ME. with family and friends and later in life at Pinehurst N.C. Joan spent summers of her youth at White Horse Beach Plymouth MA where she met her husband, Joe the love of her life and biggest supporter. She created memories of a lifetime and a love for White Horse Beach that she passed on to her daughter and grandchildren. Nothing brought Joan greater joy than her role as Grandma to her 3 grandchildren. Constantly celebrating each one with a "Special Day" of their own to highlight her individualized pride and love. Joan will be remembered for her unlimited generosity, quick wit and infectious laugh. Joe and Jennifer would like to thank the amazing team at Newton Wellesley Hospital for their care and compassion.
Visitation at the Burke and Blackington Funeral Home 1479 Washington St, West Newton, MA 02465 will be on Thursday May 8th from 4:00 to 7:00pm.
