Juan Carlos Gabarro

Juan Carlos “Jorde” Gabarro, 46, of Newton, Massachusetts, died tragically in a car accident on August 24, 2026. A devoted husband and father, adored son and brother, thoughtful digital business leader, and friend to many, Juan built a life distinguished by curiosity, keen insight, generosity of spirit, and instinctive empathy.

Juan was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on September 7, 1979, to Marilyn Peters Gabarro, a professor of graphic design, and Jack Gabarro, a business school professor and pioneer in organizational psychology. Juan is survived by his beloved wife, Ana Marban-Lorenzo; their son, Lorenzo Gabarro-Marban; his mother, Marilyn Gabarro; sister, Jana Gabarro; and sister-in-law, Christine Helsel, all of Massachusetts. He also leaves behind countless close friends, colleagues, and members of his extended family. He was predeceased by his father, Jack, in 2022.

Juan was educated at Shady Hill School in Cambridge, Massachusetts; St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire, Class of 1998; Harvard College, Class of 2002; and Harvard Business School, Class of 2011.

Following college, Juan began a distinguished career in the then-emerging fields of digital business and analytics. He combined intellectual rigor and practical judgment with a rare gift for bringing people together. His professional roles spanned technology, strategy consulting, mobility, and wellness, including leadership roles with Athenahealth, Digitas, OC&C Strategy Consultants, InnoSight, Zipcar, Planet Fitness, and Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa. Juan was known for his insightful, thoughtful approaches to collaboration, organizational alignment, and digital transformation. Predictably, he was widely respected as a leader of teams and a mentor. He loved to help others grow.

Introduced by a friend, Juan met and fell in love with Ana while working as a research assistant at IESE Business School in Barcelona after college. Their meeting began a deep, enduring, and loving partnership that shaped the life they built together. They were married on July 6, 2009, in Chatham, Massachusetts, and welcomed their son, Lorenzo, on November 16, 2013. Juan delighted in building models with Lorenzo, spending summer visits in Ana’s native Spain with their extended family, and sharing long, wide-ranging conversations with friends and family.

To those who knew him, Juan brought deep intellect, profound empathy, quick wit, and an effortless rapport with people from every walk of life. A lifelong New Englander, he was a devoted Boston sports fan and treasured rooting for his hometown teams alongside childhood and college friends. He also generously volunteered his time with Boston-area organizations dedicated to mentoring and empowering underserved young people. His smile and laughter were contagious, and he approached every conversation as an opportunity to discover something new and exciting, whether about the topic or, more often, the person at hand. Above all, Juan was a loving family man and exceptional friend whose presence made others feel seen, heard, and valued. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

A Gathering of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM at The Village Church 2 Central Street Wellesley, Massachusetts. A brief service will be followed by visitation with the family.
