Obituary

Katherine "Kathy" L. Maher of Wellesley, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the age of 66 after a hard-fought battle with endometrial cancer. She grew up in the D.C. area and graduated from Dartmouth College with a bachelor's degree in mathematics, among one of the first graduating classes that admitted women. She received her MBA from Boston University and had an extensive career in the financial services industry, holding a number of executive-level positions at BankBoston, FleetBoston, Bank of America, Citigroup and lastly at JPMorgan Chase & Co. She was a trailblazer, breaking many gender barriers throughout her career, and was a mentor for other women in business. An entrepreneurial spirit throughout her life, in the past few years Kathy co-authored Launch!: 11 Key Elements of Wildly Successful Startups and Crowdfunding: Tapping a New Investor Universe. She loved entertaining over the holidays, sewing (including her beautiful wedding dress) and spending time with her family, especially with her devoted husband of almost 38 years. Of all her many accomplishments, her daughters were her greatest pride. Kathy was kind, generous, smart, witty, determined and a fierce debater, especially about politics — she will be sorely missed by all who loved her.

Beloved daughter of the late A. Michael Maher Jr. and step-daughter of Patricia Maher. Beloved wife of James G. Vivian and loving mother of Kaitlin E. Vivian of Wellesley and Michelle N. Vivian of Newton. Dear sister of Christopher (Kristine), Robert, Wayne, Karina (Michael Kovac) Maher and Debra Baker. She is also survived by her beloved sisters-in-law Mary Lou Vivian-Morris (Brian), Anne Vivian Brooks and Margaret Vivian, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday January 27th at 10AM in St. John the Evangelist Parish, 9 Glen Rd. Wellesley followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday evening from 4 to 7PM in the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 56 Washington St. Wellesley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
