Laraine Canty's Obituary
Laraine "Rainie" Joyce Canty of West Newton, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024, after a long illness.
She grew up in Newton Corner and West Newton and was in Newton's first Special Education class in 1950. She attended the workshop at Charles River ARC (now Charles River Center) for over 50 years and later became a resident of Charles River's Mountain House and 1285 South Street both in Needham for the last 20 plus years.
A beloved sister, aunt, great aunt, cousin and friend, she was predeceased by her parents, John and Mabel Canty and brother Gregory Canty. Surviving to cherish her memory are her brother John (Jack) and his wife Mary Fischer, sister Susan York and her husband Paul York, nieces Megan York and Katelyn York, great nephew Liam York and cousin Jean Cain and husband John (Bill) Cain.
Raine enjoyed bowling, attending dances and church. She had a vivacious personality and was well like by all that met her. She was always the reference of trivia as to someone's name.
A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
