Marcus Cook Bogue III, 80, died peacefully at home on June 2. Marcus is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Bogue; his children, Maxwell Bogue, Millicent Hedenberg, and Margot McCrea; and Stepchildren, Laurie Marshall and Gerald Sheehan; and his grandchildren Charlie, Mimi, Bo, Plum, Robbie, and Finn. He was predeceased by his son; Marcus Cook Bogue IV.
Marcus was born to Virginia Bogue and Marcus Cook Bogue Jr. on January 1, 1946. He often described himself as the first totally healthy baby born at the Mayo Clinic. Keenly intelligent, Marcus progressed from a one room schoolhouse in Colorado, where he grew up, to Taft to an undergraduate degree at Stanford, where he majored in electrical engineering. He was a member of the Tau Beta Pi, Phi Beta Kappa, and Sigma Xi honor societies. He went on to get a master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and returned to Stanford to earn a Ph.D. in Finance.
He then moved to Pittsburgh where he began his career as a professor at Carnegie Mellon. After leaving academia, Marcus moved to Massachusetts and co-founded the Braxton Financial Group. He later became the president of The Planning Economics Group, an economic consulting and marketing research firm. He went on to serve as president of Marnick Associates, where he led the team responsible for creating the Compustat PC-Plus product for Standard & Poors’ Compustat, before founding Charter Oak Investment Systems in the late 1980s. He continued to run Charter Oak, which worked with financial databases, until his retirement. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time at the beach with Nancy, especially at their home in Ogunquit, Maine. Marcus enjoyed Italian cars, French wine, and creating a little homegrown mischief.
Funeral will be held at Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home 56 Washington St, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481 on Tuesday, June 9 at 11:00am. An hour of visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00am-11am.
