With a heavy heart, we are sad to announce the passing of our beloved Mary Jayne Pyne Smith. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Mary is survived by her husband Thomas Smith, daughters Laurie (Mike), Lynn, Megan and son Peter, and six grandchildren.


Mary was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and grew up with her younger sister Peg and her younger brother Mike. While working at the Grand Theatre in St. Paul, Mary met her future husband Tom, and they were married for 57 years. After moving to the Boston area in 1977, Mary received her MBA from Northeastern University and worked in the healthcare industry, she ended her career at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts as the CFO of Student Health Plans.


She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved to be called "Nana". Mary and Tom enjoyed spending time at Cape Cod and you could often find Mary in the garden, quilting or reading. Mary was always the glue that kept the family together and managed everything through the years. She was always a kind and loving soul and a joy to be around. She will be dearly missed by all that had the pleasure to know her.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
