Beverly - Michael S. Matuzek, 57, unexpectedly chose to end his pain on March 16, 2019 in Beverly, MA. Michael was a gentle and caring soul, born on October 27, 1961, the son of Stephen and Ruth Matuzek, and grew up in Holden, MA. He also resided many years in Malden in his own three decker before moving to Beverly to join the love of his life, Andrea Koucka. Mike "the Hike" was a 1979 graduate of Saint John's High School in Shrewsbury and a 1983 graduate of Skidmore College, majoring in Chemistry. Following college he received a certificate in Computer Science from Central New England College and began work at Advanced NMR Systems in Cambridge, MA.
After several years he left to become a consultant and day trader. Besides his partner, Andrea, Mike leaves behind a sister, Marina R. Matuzek, Esq. and her husband, Kevin C. McGee, two nephews, Brendan and Tristan, many cousins in MA, MD, Fl and ME as well as numerous beloved friends in Central and Eastern MA. He was predeceased by his parents Stephen and Ruth Matuzek. Mike loved all Boston sports, especially the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins.
Before suffering an injury several years before, he constantly played tennis in Weston and eagerly followed the Grand Slam Tournaments. He loved horse racing, especially at the racetrack near his college at Saratoga. In later years hiking was his thing, and he did this all over Eastern MA. He also enjoyed wildlife preserves, especially the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Worcester County Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024. Brunch will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Mike Matuzek Memorial Fund at GoFundMe where a fund is being created to aid in suicide prevention. Also, contributions are welcome at the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary.
