Obituary

Peter L. Vachon, a lifelong resident of Newton, passed away peacefully at his home on May 3rd, at the age of 92. He was predeceased by his parents, Linus P. and Doris Vachon. Peter was a proud Army veteran who served honorably during the Korean War. Peter honored his family's legacy by excelling in the craft of carpentry, a skill passed down from both his father and grandfather. An avid fisherman, Peter leaves behind his cherished wife of 70 years, Ann Lee (Mitchell) Vachon, whom he often referred to as the 'best catch of his life'. A devoted father, Peter's legacy lives on through his six children: Annmarie Carey and husband Edward, Lee Calderone and husband Keith, Margo Vachon, Petra Conboy, Linus Vachon and wife Karen, and Sandy Sullivan and husband Tom. His role as a grandfather to ten grandchildren, their spouses and seven great-grandchildren brought him immense joy. Peter is also survived by his sister, June Hebert, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Vachon Rieman, and son-in-law, Richard Conboy.

An enthusiastic fly fisherman, Peter was an active member of the Norfolk Trout Club, and the West Suburban YMCA. He found great pleasure in the camaraderie and community these affiliations brought into his life. He also enjoyed the company of his friends, and neighbors from Prescott St. and Warren St.

In remembrance of Peter, the family suggests contributions to either the Good Shepherd Community Care, https://gscommunitycare.org/ , or the Newton Wellesley Charitable Foundation Give at Newton-Wellesley Hospital ( nwh.org ), in honor of Drs. Erica Johnson and Mark Weinfeld, who provided exceptional care.

The Vachon family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers from Peace of Mind and Good Shepherd Community Care for their compassionate support.

A visitation and service in memory of Peter will be held at the Newton Cemetery Chapel on Saturday, May 11. Friends and family are invited to gather for calling hours from 1:00 to 2:30 PM, with a service to follow at 2:30 PM. The burial will be conducted privately.
