Richard (Dick) Pober, son of the late Max and Elizabeth Pober, leaves his wife of 56 years, Peggy, his son, David, his daughter, Elena, and his son-in-law, Daniel Tisdale, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dick grew up in Brookline and graduated from Brookline High School, earned a BS in metallurgy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and a Doctor of Science degree, also from MIT, in ceramics engineering. He spent many years running the Ceramics Processing Research Laboratory at MIT, followed by many years teaching and working with students on research projects at the Boston University School of Dental Medicine. He continued to consult and collaborate on scientific projects following his formal retirement. Dick was a mentor and advisor to many, and was always interested in engineering a good solution to a problem. He was a man of many talents, including gardening, and in his younger days was an avid sailor. He was hard to keep up with on foot, enjoyed Irish music, was a whiz at crossword puzzles, had great adventures traveling abroad with his family, and took great pleasure in the time he spent with them.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family on Saturday, 13 September, from 10 AM to 12 PM, with a commemoration of Dick's life beginning at 10:30, at the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, 1479 Washington St., West Newton, MA.
