Obituary

Dr. Robert John Bomberowitz, affectionately known as Bob, age 71, died peacefully at his home in Newton Highlands, Massachusetts, on January 25, 2022, after a years long battle with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) that he faced with courage, grace, and a sense of humor, right to the end.

Bob was born on March 5, 1950, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After high school, he received a scholarship to Case Western Reserve University, where he earned two degrees, an AB in English and a BS in Physics. After his undergraduate studies, Bob conducted research at the Fermi National Accelerator via the Rutgers Ph.D. program in experimental high energy physics. He received his doctorate in1975.

Bob got married to Mary Jo Moran in 1975, and they have been married ever since. After a brief time at Bell Labs, Bob and Mary Jo moved to the Boston area to further their careers.

Bob led a very active and productive life; he was always on call for neighborhood computer issues. He was a problem solver. Bob consulted globally in software, hardware and voice recognition for most of his working life. He loved mathematics, sports, gourmet cooking and was a wine connoisseur. He coached his sons in Newton soccer for almost a decade.

The snow is lying quietly, and Bob is at peace. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo, his two cherished sons, Ian Robert and Justin Alan, their spouses Colby and Lynn, his precious grandchildren Samuel and Annie, and his Golden Retriever Hudson. His twin sister Georgeann Guttridge and her husband, John, also survived.

Good Shepherd Anglican Episcopal Church will provide a private service at the Newton Cemetery.
