Obituary

Ruth MacKay, a lifelong resident of Newton, passed away peacefully at Wingate Nursing Home in Haverhill MA Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the age of 95.

Born in Newton to Harry and Anne (O'Neil) Muldoon. Ruth lived in Newton and worked at John Hancock in Boston and at the Perkins School For The Blind in Newton MA. She loved traveling, shopping for fashionable clothing, and frequently you could find her at Friendly's, Cabot's and Brigham's Ice Cream restaurants with her sweet tooth having a treat. She had a wonderful sense of humor along with a little funny sarcasm. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, reading and relaxing at the beach working on her tan. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.

Ruth is survived by her son, William MacKay and his wife Amy of Topsfield, MA and daughter Pamela Trudel of St. Augustine, FL as well as grandchildren Jacquelin MacKay of Largo FL, Michael MacKay of Salem MA, Elizabeth Trudel and Andrew Trudel of St Augustine FL, and Victoria Grigg and her husband Dustin and their young daughter Vivian, Ruth's Great Granddaughter of St Augustine FL. She was the dear sister of the late Carol Blum, and is survived by brother-in-law Lenny Blum of Broomall, PA.

Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's memory may be made to the Perkins School For The Blind at https://support.perkins.org/give/597115/#!/donation/checkout

From her daughter Pam:

As I remember Mom, my earliest memories are filled with the warmth of her
voice as she read to me, inspiring a lifelong passion for stories. Her influence at a young age profoundly
impacted me, setting the foundation for my love for reading. She gave me beautiful books with full-page
illustrations and had me reading on my own by age four! Mom's love for shopping and buying gifts for her family was unmatched, but her true talent lay in picking books. Each book was a thoughtful gift,
carefully chosen to match the reader's interests. Mom knew who wanted romance novels and who
preferred war stories. She had an eye for children's books and delighted in reading to her grandchildren.
These books, especially "The Secret Garden" were not just gifts but treasured keepsakes that brought
joy and excitement. I am deeply grateful to Mom for inspiring my love for reading. It was a priceless gift
we shared and one I would pass on to my children. I think Mom would be happy that I am learning
Braille and reading with visually impaired students. With each page turned and every story shared, her
memory lives on.
