Obituary

Scott Devlin of Newton, Massachusetts passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on September 30 while at home with his family.

Scott was born on July 28, 1976, in Falmouth, MA. He was the son of Valerie and Kevin Devlin.

After graduating from Falmouth High School, Scott looked to combine his passion for sports with his penchant for connecting with people and pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He built many memories and friendships at UMass, and particularly enjoyed working at the housing office during his time as an undergraduate. He met Agatha Clancy, with whom he would build a life and a family, at UMass. He graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in 1998.

While Scott would not pursue a career in Sports Management, he never abandoned his love of sports. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of the sports world and was always up for a good debate with friends and family. Scott did, however, professionally pursue a career involving his other passion - working with people. His early career was highlighted by being a part of Enterprise's Management Training Program, where he managed and mentored many young professionals in their careers. Most recently, and for the last 10 plus years, he has worked at Eliassen Group's Life Sciences Division; where he has helped countless professionals find the right fit in their careers. He'll be remembered by his co-workers as an affable presence who was always willing to help someone out.

Scott moved to Newton, MA in 2015 and lived with Agatha Clancy and their son Patrick Devlin. Patrick was the highlight of Scott's life. He happily sacrificed many things to be there for Patrick, now 18, who was diagnosed with Autism at two and half years old. The joy that Patrick brought to Scott's life was immeasurable, only surpassed by the pride Scott felt when he watched his son perform, or take on some other new challenge. Scott would never miss a performance or a game, and tirelessly cheered him on from backstage, in the crowd, or on the sidelines. He would be most proud knowing that he has been the most extraordinary father Patrick could ask for; and that though their time together was cut short, he made an indelible imprint on his son in the best of ways.

Scott was a friend to many, and will be missed by countless connections he has made through the years. He will be dearly missed by his family, including his sister-in-law Emily Fitzgerald, his brother-in-law Tim Fitzgerald and his three nieces, Neve, Nora and Bridget. He leaves behind his mother-in-law Frances Clancy. In addition, Scott leaves behind other family members that will dearly miss him, Chet, Toni, Blaise, Constance, Jake, Kate, Luke and Dervla.

A wake will be held from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm Sunday, October 6th at Burke & Blackington Funeral Home 1479 Washington Street, West Newton, MA 02465. The funeral will be held privately.
