Obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Timothy Patrick McCarthy of Newton, Massachusetts, who passed on July 7, 2025, at the age of 94.

Timothy was the devoted husband of Winifred (Sweeney) McCarthy, his beloved wife of 68 years, whom he lovingly referred to as his "darling." Together they built a life filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering devotion—treasuring their walks, travels, and quiet time shared with family.

He was the adored father of Kathleen McCarthy, the late James McCarthy, Dennis McCarthy and his wife Sandy, Patricia Behan and her husband Ken, Bernard McCarthy, and Maureen Pallotta and her husband Richard. Timothy was a loving grandfather to Tom, Kate, Pat, Jen, Tim, Colleen, Kate, Megan, Nicholas, and Genevieve, and a cherished brother to Mary, Shiela, Kathleen, and the late Margaret, John, James, Elizabeth, and Dennis. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.

Born in Kileen, Castle Cove, The White Strand, County Kerry, Ireland, to Timothy and Mary (Shea) McCarthy, Timothy carried his Irish heritage proudly and shared vivid memories of his homeland throughout his life. His rich storytelling and infectious sense of humor captivated all who knew him.

An avid reader and student of history—both Irish and American—Timothy passed his love of learning to his children and grandchildren. He had a green thumb and a tireless spirit, often found in his garden or working on a project around his home. His deep appreciation for music spanned folk, country, and decades of Irish performers.

Above all, Timothy was known for his generosity, kindness, and willingness to lend a helping hand. His legacy is one of quiet strength, joy, and love for his family and community.

The McCarthy family extends heartfelt gratitude to Good Shepherd Community Hospice for their compassionate care during Timothy's final weeks.

Funeral service will be held Friday, July 11, 2025 at 12PM in the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, West Newton followed by interment in Newton Cemetery. An hour of visitation will be held immediately prior to the service from 11AM-12PM.
